SECURITY TIPS
Here are a few questions we can ask ourselves….
-Did you join BOCA yet as a dues paying member?
-Do you know your neighbors?
-Are you aware of your neighbor’s routines?
-Can you enter your home through the front doors thus creating a situation where you run into more neighbors and see them more frequently?
-Do you stop and talk with your neighbors when they are walking in front of your house?
-Can you sit on your front porch and say “hello” as people walk or drive by?
-Do you let your immediate neighbors know that you are going out of town?
-Do you stop your newspaper and mail when going out of town or allow a neighbor to help?
-Did you email the association to register for VACATION WATCH while you are out of town? broussardcabrla@gmail.com Please note: This service is for dues paying members only.
Some suggestions from our off duty patrol officers that may help curb crime…
-LOCK car doors! Every night.. build a routine.
-Police have confirmed that installing gates leading to their back yard can be a simple solution to deterring crimes like stealing bicycles, scooters, lawn equipment, etc…
-We have also heard from some neighbors that they are installing door bells leading to their back yard. Thus, if someone crosses a threshold line to their backyard, then the doorbell chimes and causes an alert. Again, this simple solution has deterred some criminal activity.
-Record pictures and serial numbers of your bicycles, scooters, tools and lawn equipment. If they should get stolen, then you can use those numbers as proof of property to the police or a pawn shop.
-Cameras are strong deterrents too and can potentially help the police catch the criminals.
-Outdoor lighting can help as well.
-Report all crimes to the police, no matter how small. It helps the police keep track of patterns and potentially find the suspects.
